The long-awaited capture of the famous weapon-smith who earned a commission from the High King has left the Tower in a state of eager anticipation. Despite being tortured at the hands of a sadistic inquisitor, Ferrin is no closer to breaking, and seems destined for the Chamber of Purging if he continues to withhold his help in creating magic-infused weapons for the Tower's growing army. VALTOR, Arch Chancellor of the White Tower and advisor to the High Prince, will stop at nothing to ensure his victory in what he believes will be an epic battle between those with magic and those without. No wielder, witch, or wizard will stand in his way. As Guardian Protector to the High King, AYRION is no stranger to battle.     Dara Ruminor is a serious young duelist in the mountaintop kingdom of Vertigon, a land of dramatic cliffs and misty peaks where mysterious Fire magic runs through the stones like blood. The secluded kingdom has been peaceful for a hundred years. Swords are used for sport, and successful athletes live like kings as long as the crowds love them. Eighteen-year-old Dara needs to find a wealthy patron in order to duel professionally and avoid a lifetime working in her parents’ Fire Lantern shop. Her efforts are disrupted when her coach asks her to train with Prince Siv, an infuriating—if handsome—young man who refuses to take the sport as seriously as she does. But the prince’s life may be in danger, and soon Dara will discover that Vertigon isn’t as peaceful as she thought. As threats emerge from the shadows, Dara will have to raise her sword to protect Siv—if he doesn’t irritate her so much that she decides to run him through herself. From the author of the Seabound Chronicles comes a new fantasy series about sword fighting, cur-dragons, molten Fire magic, and one young woman’s effort to prove herself.

Monstrous bandits stalk the woods to the west, huge creatures terrorize farms to the north, and a dark presence has taken up refuge in the ancient ruins to the south.**

Banded together with the tall warrior, Titan, and her mercenary companion, the novice heroes set out to confront these creatures of darkness. Yet they quickly find they are facing more than just a few rogue monsters, for there is a greater force behind them all. Writing Update – New Sci-Fi Book

I wanted to give you all a writing update since it's long overdue. I just finished proofing THE CREATOR - The Third Book of the Elementals Trilogy a few weeks ago, and I'm anticipating the launch on July 13, 2016. You can read an excerpt here. In the meantime, I've started a new project and I'm about 5,000 words in. I don't have a title yet. I also don't have a working title yet. But I have decided to further explore a new genre in this book -- Science Fiction. I'm a big Science Fiction fan, and I've read tons of the stuff. In fact my first half dozen books were Science Fiction (these were the ones I wrote as a kid so don't get too excited). There is one that I think might be worth re-vamping. I mentioned it on my Facebook page a few months ago. It was my first ever book that I completed when I was eleven. It's Science Fiction and I've recently had the opportunity to re-read it. The writing is bad, but the story is quite good, and I would like to share it with you all. Hence, the 5,ooo words of re-write so far. If you like dystopian Science Fiction, you might want to check it out. I'll keep y'all updated!

Happy Endings vs. Unhappy Endings

With story endings, the reader has to have a sense of satisfaction. But does this mean that the ending has to be a happy one? I've seen enough horror movies to know that that's not the case. Almost every horror movie has an unhappy ending where the hero doesn't win. Sure, there are some movies where the protagonist does live at the end, but it's normally at the loss of all his friends or his mental well being. That's not really winning, and it's not really a happy ending. I'm currently writing a story that doesn't have a happy ending. There's just something about an unhappy ending that intrigues me. Maybe it's from watching too many horror movies. Both endings are true in real life, maybe a mix of them of really. In real life, every thing is not tied up in a neat bow. We don't get the benefit of knowing how everyone's story ends. You might say that's why we read books or watch movies, because we want that unrealistic sense of closure. But sometimes, perhaps oftentimes, I find that I don't want complete closure. Sometimes, I want an unhappy "Stephen King" ending that leaves me wondering "where does the main character go from here?"
Like in the The Mist where, moments before the troops come in, David Drayton kills the other survivors, including his son.
The Creator: The Elementals Book Three (A Young Adult Fantasy Novel)

Here is a preview of the third volume

of the Elementals Trilogy

THE CREATOR

The walls and ground of Dawn’s home where living roots used to grow were now black and dying. The leaves were curling in on themselves and falling to ashes on the floor. Dawn had salvaged some of the herbs before they begun to die. She used them to make tea for her father and brothers. Dawn’s hands shook as she placed the cup of tea in the fleshless hands. Suddenly, one of the fleshless hands seized her wrist. “I’ve missed you,” he avowed, holding onto her spotted hand. He looked around at Vuur, Glaciem, and Vjetar. “I’ve missed all of you.” He let go of Dawn’s wrist. “Where is your brother, Destan?” Dawn gulped. Did he know? Did he know what she and Destan had done? (more…)

Here is a preview of the second volume

of The Elementals Trilogy

THE COUNCIL

Sara was dancing on the familiar surface of the lake, surrounded by crystals. Ripples danced through the clear water as she twirled upon its surface. She delighted in the cool lightness beneath her feet as the water wavered there like silk in the breeze. This moment was long forgotten. Sara stopped as she felt a hand upon her shoulder. Arms hugged her and blond hair brushed softly against her cheek. “I missed you,” she whispered. His arms loosened their grasp, and the scene began to fade. Sara was being pulled from the dream. Two voices sounded in her head as her mind was ripped away. The first was Talon’s: “Your story is not over.” And the second… “You’re not alone.” (more…)

The Elementals: The Elementals Book One (A Young Adult Epic Fantasy Novel)

Here is a preview of the first volume

in The Elementals Trilogy

THE ELEMENTALS

The city that housed fire was black, and the illumination of the fire’s surging brillianc e did not extinguish the depth of the shadows. Darkness, alive and threatening, swept across the valley and the worn stone walls of the fortress at its center. Its dark fingertips crept along the cliff and jagged rock of the mountain with its shadow towering over the city. At the city’s core, the citadel was huddled among the crumbling buildings. Inside the citadel was a castle made of stone from the surrounding structures. The streets were dim-lit with the torches kept ablaze by the power of the city’s citizens. The mountains rose on the city’s northern and southern borders, and to the east was the cliff. Stones had fallen from the city walls and were left on the ground. Some were buried in the snow. Stone houses were huddled across the valley. Many of the windows had no shutters and heavy blankets were draped over them to keep out the cold. The doors were of worn wood that needed to be replaced after every storm. Icicles hung from the houses so that their roofs wept frozen tears. (more…)
